Abstract

A Fractional PID controller (FrPID) for an Active Image Stabilization System (AISS) that compensates undesirable displacements and acceleration vibrations in agricultural machinery is proposed. Modeling and simulations of an AISS using FrPID and classical PID controllers is explored. Experiments based on simulations are carried out to compare the performance of the AISS with fractional and integer order PID controllers. Using common vibration disturbances acquired by a field experiment with a tractor-implement set, superior performance was observed for a closed-loop system with the FrPID algorithm. The benefits of the proposed AISS are the ability of attenuating the disturbances related to typical vibration components in agricultural machines. Additionally, the performance of the AISS is enhanced using a FrPID controller. The modeling and simulations presented in this study propose a new view of stabilization controllers for AISS through the FC tool and explore new possibilities for designing optimal controllers for agricultural systems.
